Biography

Ryo Hirabayashi was born in Tokyo in 1988.
 

He has won the “Audience Award” as one of the 3 finalists at the 4th Nino Rota Conducting Competition in Italy from 1 to 7 Oct. 2019.

He also won the 3rd Prize at the 1st Italian Conducting Competition in Italy from 3 to 7 Sep. 2019; 1 concert to be held in the 2019/2020 or 2020/2021 season of the Bordighera Symphony Orchestra.

He has conducted many professional orchestras in Japan, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Estonia, United Kingdom and United States, such as Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini, Berlin Sinfonietta, Cadaques orchestra, Argovia Philharmonic orchestra, Salzburg chamber soloist, Castleton Festival Orchestra, London Classical Soloists, Orchestra Ensamble Kanazawa, Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra and Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra.

He studied with Lorin Maazel, Leonid Grin, Peter Gülke, Kenneth Kiesler, Petari Inkinen, Mosche Atzmon, Douglous Bostock, Achim Holub, Junichi Hirokami and Michiyoshi Inoue. He has been worked as an assistant conductor and chorus conductor under Junichi Hirokami, Michiyosi Inoue and others.

 

In August 2015, he got the 2nd prize in the London Conducting Masterclass & Competition by orchestra member’s voting.

 

in August 2015, he was invited to the audition of the Riccardo Muti Italian Opera Academy as one of the selected 8 applicants from approximately 200 applicants. He got honor to conduct Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini by Riccardo Muti's selection and got advices from Maestro personally and also attended his rehearsals and lessons.

 

In June and July 2014, he participated in the Maestro Maazel Master Class in the Castleton music festival as one of  the selected applicants by Lorin Maazel. He studied under him and got honour to conduct this festival orchestra in the rehearsal of Madama Batterfly, which was supposed to be conducted by Maestro in the concert. He conducted the opera scene concert in this festival as well.

 

He experienced conductor of the Hannoki Wind Orchestra in Tokyo, conductor of the Appassionato Orchestra in Tokyo, principal conductor of the Nishi philharmonic Orchestra in Tokyo, guest conductor of the special concert with Tokyo College Music Orchestra and Chorus, guest conductor of the art festival of the Tokyo College of Music, guest conductor of the MFL Orchestra in Tokyo.

 

Until now he conducted Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini, Berlin Sinfonietta, Cadaques orchestra, Argovia Philharmonic orchestra, Salzburg chamber soloist, Castleton Festival Orchestra, Estonia Music Academy Orchestra, Orchestra Ensamble Kanazawa, Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra and Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of Tokyo College of Music, Kashiwa Symphony Orchestra, Shizuoka Philharonic Orchestra, Matsudo City Philharmonic Orchestra, Kawasaki Shimin Symphony Orchestra, Windmill Orchestra, Chuo-ku Symphony Orchestra, Ensamble Sakura, Fukaya City Philharmonic Orchestra, Granship Music Festival Orchestra, Chorus of Kawaguchi, Chorus of Chuo-ku, Collegium Musicum Shizuoka in Shizuoka, Esprit Mandolin Orchestra, Chiyoda Philharmonic Orchestra, Stein Philharmoniker and Odawara Philharmonic Orchestra.

 

He founded the Akira Orchestra and Jan Fuss Orchestra in Tokyo and conducted that orchestra in many concerts such as the Mozart’s Requiem special concert with the Tokyo College of Music Chorus.

 

In Opera performances he conducted the Cosi fan tutte with students of Tokyo College of Music and Toho Gakuen School of Music and Gianni Schicchi with students of Tokyo College of Music.

 

He worked as Chorus conductor in the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra’s regular concert with the Tokyo Philharmonic Chorus and Tokyo Symphony Orchestra’s concert of Beethoven 9th Symphony.

 

He worked as assistant conductor of the Granship Music Festival under Junichi Hirokami, assistant conductor of the the Concert tour to Tohoku of Symphony Orchestra of Tokyo College of Music under Michiyoshi Inoue and other many orchestras.

 

He began piano lessons at the age of seven and conducting lessons at the age of seventeen. He graduated from Tokyo College of Music with a major in conducting in 2011 and continued further studying there till 2013.

In Tokyo College of Music he studied conducting with Junichi Hirokami, Shigeki Miyamatsu, Masanori Mikawa, Toshihumi Tashiro and Yasuhumi Tokitou, piano with Kiyotaka Noda,Kenji Koshizuka,Yasuyo Suzuki,Kiriko Tsukuda and Yuko Sagami, music theory with Tomiko Kojiba and Sunao Isaji, violoncello with Yoshihiko Maeda and Mikuko Mimori, and singing with Yoji Hoshi.
